My Life Lessons

I always had a dream that my life would go a certain way. What I wanted to be once I grew up, where I would live,  when I would get married, etc. And when you’re young, you think of all the extravagant things that you could be, all the exotic places that you can live and the exciting person whom you are destined to marry.

Now, there is nothing wrong with dreaming big.  The problem is what happens once we get a little older, a little wiser. Not saying that the extravagant,  exotic and exciting are impossible, they just become a little more challenging than we were lead to believe as children.

Now comes the work. The hard work. The blood, sweat and tears. The effort of reaching, obtaining and maintaining your goals. If I have learned anything in my life, it is that it is not enough to just make, reach and obtain a goal. You have to work just as hard to maintain that goal. Maintaining leads to consistency and consistency is key. Why just stop once the goal has been reached? Why not work just as hard, or maybe even harder to maintain that goal? Maintaining that goal means ensuring that is stays a reality … YOUR reality!

But of course, in the midst of all the hard work, we expect things to go a certain way. Flow a certain course. If I have learned anything in my life, it is that nothing goes as planned. EVER. NO THING. And since such is the way of life, one must accommodate for the minor bumps in the road. Always have a back-up plan. A plan B. A second route. We have to be prepared fof anything that life throws our way.

Someone once told me “a setback ain’t nothin’ but a setup for a comeback.” If I have learned anything in my life it is that we should not, can not, MUST NOT give up. Obstacles arise, yes. But if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Imagine if the greats had given up! And when I say “the greats” I mean anyone who played any part in history at all. If just one of those people hadn’t done what they were put here on this Earth to do, where would the rest of us be? If I have learned anything in my life, it is that if you have a dream, you must do EVERYTHING in your power to accomplish and achieve it. Giving up is the easy way out; it never pays off. Staying the course is where the real reward is. ALWAYS.
