R.I.P. to Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly.
According to sources, the Atlanta rapper was found discovered unresponsive at his home and was later taken to the Atlanta Medical Center around 8pm last night.
An autopsy was scheduled for this morning. According to the police report, he had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine the night before and his mother Donna had taken him home to recover.
Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith rose to fame in the 90’s thanks to super producer Jermaine Dupri. The SoSo Def artists rose to #1 on the charts as teens who became famous for wearing the clothes backwards and spitting fast rhymes.
Back in February, the duo performed in Atlanta for the SoSo Def 20th anniversary reunion party where they performed “Jump”, “Live & Die For Hip Hop” and “Warm It Up.”
Earlier this morning, Dupri tweeted “a letter to the fans” and in the letter he referred to Kelly as “the son he never had.” He also celebrated Kelly as an artist saying that:
“God has blessed me to be in the presence of so many naturally talented people, and Chris was one. His understanding of what we set out to do, from day one was always on point.”
Condolences to his family & friends. He will be missed.
